Please note: The Metro Center butcher block table comes with a Varnique semi-gloss finish that seals and protects the wood. The Varnique finish gives the piece a fine furniture look and eases maintenance, but is not meant to be cut upon directly. If you require a cutting surface, we recommend these options:

1) You can purchase a separate butcher block cutting board to use atop the surface of the Metro Center. We have many butcher block cutting boards to choose from.

2) You can sand off the Varnique semi-gloss finish from the top of the Metro Center (while leaving it on the sides) using a piece of fine steel wool. (Please consult a finish carpenter if you have questions about how this is best done.) If you choose to sand off the surface of the Metro Center, you will need to then oil the surface and maintain it as you would an oil finish butcher block.
