More than just a work surface, butcher block countertops are the perfect melding of beauty and function. Professional chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike prefer butcher block for all slicing, dicing, and chopping duties. Bakers love it for preparation and rolling dough. No other countertop surface offers the functional advantages of butcher block, and butcher block counters are priced far below other solid-surface tops.
Our butcher block counters are made by John Boos, the leading manufacturer of butcher blocks and a staple in the commercial cooking industry. John Boos is a recipient of the Gold Medal for Excellence in food service equipment, and all John Boos products are approved by the FDA and the National Sanitation Foundation. These John Boos ultra premium butcher block tops are manufactured from the finest American black walnut. Prized since Colonial times, walnut is renowned for its wavy grain, which can be fine, curly waves, or knotted and burled. The wood's color ranges from creamy white sapwood, to the darker heartwood, which can be a warm chocolate brown to purplish-black. Each piece of each walnut counter top is carefully selected for its rich colors and unique grain, as well as its strength and durability.
The butcher block's classic end-grain work surface is easy on knives; during cutting or chopping, the end grain wood fibers absorb the impact of the blade, which keeps knives sharper longer. The malleable and forgiving end grain surface is resistant to nicks and gouges, which prevents bacteria from entering the wood, keeps the board looking new longer and increases its longevity.
This butcher block countertop comes standard with a natural oil finish that can be quickly wiped clean with a damp cloth. If scars or stains do appear, they can be easily removed by sanding the area. An application of mineral oil brings the area back to like-new condition. The butcher block countertop is the only area in the kitchen with a renewable surface. When properly oiled, your walnut countertop will last decades, and its lustrous appearance will only improve with time. If you would like to purchase mineral oil for your natural oil counter top, you can add a 3-pack of Boos Mystery Oil to your order using the drop-down menu above. Each bottle of oil is 15 oz.
Because John Boos butcher blocks are built to order, normal ship time for these butcher block counters is 20 business days, plus transit time.
Due to the jointed construction of end grain and commercial-grade tops, a sink/stove cut-out can, if not done carefully, compromise the integrity of the joints where the cut-out is made. However, an experienced carpenter can create a proper cut-out in an end grain or commercial-grade top and many of our customers do cut-outs on end grain and commercial-grade tops without any problems whatsoever. If you are planning a cut-out for an end grain or jointed commercial-grade top, be sure to consult an experienced carpenter and ensure that you use proper care when making the cut. Please note that although all of our butcher blocks come standard with a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, the warranty is voided when you make cuts or alterations on site.
