Heart of the Kitchen Island

The Heart of the Kitchen Island is a beautiful, rugged, traditionally styled island that was designed to give the cook plenty of room to work and plenty of places to stow essentials. The top surface of the Heart-of-the-Kitchen gives you the elbow room you need for such projects as rolling out dough or assembling hors d’oeuvres. Even if you place a microwave oven on it, you’ll have plenty of space for a generous working area.

Below, the Heart of the Kitchen Island features a good-sized drawer with a raised profile, an open shelf accessible from all four sides, an enclosed cabinet ideal for storage of small electric appliances, and two shelves at either end where you can stow spices and condiments. (Each shelf has a brushed-nickel-finish retaining rod to keep your spice jars where you want them.) There are brushed-nickel-finish towel bars left and right, too. Heavy-duty casters (two of them lockable) let you move the island where you want it and then secure it safely.

Incidentally, if the heart of your kitchen is a TV, you might find this island ideal: Park a television set on top and a DVD or VCR player on the open shelf below, and stow DVDs and VCRs of your favorite cooking shows in the cabinet.

The top, drawer and structural members of the Heart-of-the-Kitchen, including its fluted legs, are made of fine domestic self-replenishing hardwood. The sides, door panels, drawer front and side shelves are made of matched hardwood veneer. The island has a durable food-safe oil finish which seals and protects the wood.

The Heart of the Kitchen Island is manufactured in the U.S.A. Environmentally-conscious techniques employed in its manufacture waste as little wood as possible. Manufacturing byproducts—chiefly sawdust and shavings—are converted into wood pellets that are burned to heat homes.
