- You can sand off the Varnique semi-gloss finish from the top of the kitchen cart using a piece of fine steel wool; please consult a finish carpenter if you have questions about how this is best done. If you choose to sand off the surface of your kitchen cart, you will need to then oil the surface and maintain it as you would an oil finish butcher block.
