More than just a work surface, butcher block countertops are the perfect melding of beauty and function. Made from hard rock maple, one of the hardest and most durable woods known to man, these natural solid-surface tops impart a warm friendly glow to any kitchen. Professional chefs and culinary enthusiasts alike prefer butcher block maple for all slicing, dicing, and chopping duties. Bakers love it for preparation and rolling dough. No other countertop surface offers the functional advantages of butcher block, and butcher block counters are priced far below other solid-surface tops.
Our butcher block counters are made by John Boos, the leading manufacturer of butcher blocks and a staple in the commercial cooking industry. John Boos classic commercial butcher block counter tops are manufactured from the finest northern hard rock maple and feature jointed flat-grain construction. Rails are cut, selected, and matched for appearance, thus assuring the uniformly rich and clean appearance that is desired by many discriminating customers. These rails are bonded edge to edge with FDA approved adhesives and then subjected to applied heat under enormous pressure to build the counter top. As one can readily imagine, it is extremely difficult to process natural wood into a product that provides the desired uniformity and appearance that customers prefer, but John Boos & Co. has been doing an excellent job of it for more than 100 years. John Boos remains the standard by which all other butcher block countertops are measured.
This butcher block countertop comes standard with a natural oil finish that can be quickly wiped clean with a damp cloth. If scars or stains do appear, they can be easily removed by sanding the area. An application of mineral oil brings the area back to like-new condition. If you would like to purchase mineral oil for your natural oil counter top, you can add a 3-pack of Boos Mystery Oil to your order using the drop-down menu above. Each bottle of oil is 15 oz. The butcher block countertop is the only area in the kitchen with a renewable surface.
You may also purchase your butcher block with a varnique semi-gloss finish. Varnique semi-gloss butcher block counters are virtually maintenance free, easy to clean with mild soap and warm water, and resistant to most household chemicals. The varnique semi-gloss finish seals and protects the wood, and gives your butcher block counter a fine furniture look; however, varnique semi-gloss surfaces are not meant to be cut upon directly. Please use the drop down menu above to select ‘varnique semi-gloss’ as your finish option.
If you would like a matching backsplash with your counter top, please use the drop-down menu above to select your preferred length. Backsplashes are 4 Inches tall and 3/4 of an inch thick and feature edge grain construction.
Due to the jointed construction of end grain and commercial-grade tops, a sink/stove cut-out can, if not done carefully, compromise the integrity of the joints where the cut-out is made. However, an experienced carpenter can create a proper cut-out in an end grain or commercial-grade top and many of our customers do cut-outs on end grain and commercial-grade tops without any problems whatsoever. If you are planning a cut-out for an end grain or jointed commercial-grade top, be sure to consult an experienced carpenter and ensure that you use proper care when making the cut. Please note that although all of our butcher blocks come standard with a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, the warranty is voided when you make cuts or alterations on site.
